Concord & 9th—Mod Turnabout: 1 Panel, 2 Ways!

Hello, hello!

I hope your week is off to a great start! Today, I’ve got a 2-for-1 for ya—two cards created with just one panel! These cards are always great because you get that bonus card when creating, and I’m really happy with how these turned out! I used the new Mod Turnabout from Concord & 9th’s April release and the Just Say More dies to create these cards. I love how well they pair together.

To kick off the creative session, I first got to looking at color palettes on my Pinterest board. I’ve been having an absolute blast pinning color combos that I can see Concord & 9th colors in, and this is especially helpful when it comes to starting a project lately. I tend to be immobilized by picking color at times, or end up sticking with the same ones, so this, as well as the color palettes C9 and their guest designers have been sharing this month, have been a great help!

I ended up choosing Briar Rose, Nectar, Sea Glass, and Pebble inks to stamp all four turns of the Mod Turnabout, and I love how this panel looks! These colors together are such a great, bright neutral. This color palette could really suit many occasions, and I love that! However, I did decided to add Juniper to these four colors and create a swatch panel with the Concord & 9th Swatchbook bundle.

Mod Heart

I’m going to call this card the mod heart card because I decided to die cut the large heart from the Just Say More die set out of the 4.25 x 5.5-inch Mod Turnabout panel I created. One of my favorite things to do is die cut something out of a patterned background panel—you can create something with the eclipse technique, create a fun die cut, and as a bonus, like in my case, make a second card out of what you die cut out of. With the intention of using my leftovers for a second card, I lined up the large heart die to sit as centered as possible (the wonky edges to it can definitely play with your mind on what is centered haha!).

I really wanted the background that the heart was going to sit on to have some texture, so after going through all my card front dies, I settled on using the Double Stripe card front die. This is a great background because it doesn’t compete too much or clash with the design of the Turnabout, and it leans a little modern, just like how the imperfect hearts in the die set do. I ran the card front die through my Platinum 6 on plain white cardstock, and glued it down on a Hero Arts top folding notecard. I die cut one large white heart out of plain white cardstock for dimension under the mod heart, then glued it onto my card front as centered as possible. After a bit of back and forth, I decided on using the ‘hi’ from the Just Say More die set for the greeting on this card, so I die cut the shadow out of Briar Rose to pull from the mod heart, and the greeting out of three layers of plain white cardstock.

I popped up half the greeting with thin foam squares, and the other half with 2 strips of plain white cardstock since I was going to be hanging half of the ‘hi’ off the heart. Once the heart was stuck down, I decided to add some hearts to the background. This ‘some’ turned into more than I expected, but I feel like things feel fairly balanced! To finish this card off, I busted out my Glossy Accents and added a layer of it to each heart. I love the glossy shine! Such a great contrast to the rest of the card.

Double Stripe Heart

This card changed at the very last minute! I decided to stick with the same Double Stripe card front for the large heart on this card, and orginally planned to use it as a recessed heart where the die cut Mod Turnabout panel laid over it. After playing around, I decided that I didn’t like that anymore, and I wanted the heart to be popped up. So I die cut one plain heart, then a heart out of a Double Stripe panel. This resulted in only having one layer on top of the Mod Turnabout panel, but I’m okay with it since it allows the greeting to stand out more.

For the greeting, I decided on the ‘big hugs’ sentiment and die cut the shadow out of Nectar cardstock, and the words out of three layers of plain white cardstock. I popped the greeting up on thin foam squares and popped in on the middle of the heart. To finish the card off, I pulled out my tried-and-true Rock Candy sequins from Trinity stamps to give it some shine.

So what do you think of these cards?! Do you also love a 2-for-1?! Thanks for stopping by the blog today, I hope to catch you next time with some special inspiration! 😊
