Simon Says Stamp—Flower Bundle Thank You Card

Hello, Crafters! Welcome back to the blog!

Today I’m sharing a card that I feel a little ‘meh’ about. I’m happy that creating this card led me to using things that have been sitting in my ‘to use’ bin for a while, like the Flower Bundle die set and a Glimmer sentiment, but I don’t love this card, and that’s okay! I think if I were to remake it and maybe lose some of the white space, I would love it more, but that might just be a ‘me’ thing.

But enough about me and my feelings, let’s get into the details on this card! I first started off by choosing a color palette from my Swatchbook. The color palette consists of Ballet Slipper, Briar Rose, Honeycomb, Juniper and Sea Glass cardstocks from Concord & 9th, and I threw in Wheat to round out my wrapped bouquet. When I was choosing this color palette, I could see things coming together. The pinks are perfect for blooms, the yellow for the flower centers, the two shades of ‘green’ would be perfect for greenery, and Wheat cardstock would perfectly wrap this bouquet up. I got to die cutting with my bitty buzz cutter (absolutely LOVE this mini die cut machine!), and ended up with a gold bow to ‘tie’ my bouquet together, greenery pieces in both Juniper and Sea Glass, and 5 flowers— three out of Ballet Slipper, and two out of Briar Rose. I decided on 5 flowers since it would feel more balanced than four, and would allow me to have two Briar Rose flowers, I really liked how those looked here!

Before gluing the bow onto the Wheat bouquet wrap, I decided to add some subtle shading the the left side of the wrap with Wheat ink. I wanted this to make it seem like the wrap was packed full of floral stems, but this detail can definitely be skipped!

At this point, I decided I was going to bust out my Glimmer hot foil machine and foil a sentiment from the Spellbinders More Sentiments hot foil set. I haven’t used my foil machine in months, and I really want to use it more often, so I was excited to do so! I chose the ‘thanks for all you do’ foil plate and decided I would foil it onto Concord & 9th white cardstock that was die cut using the largest of the A2 Marquee dies from Simon Says Stamp. Carissa Wiley always raves about how awesome the C9 white cardstock is to foil on, so I wanted to try it since I’ve only ever tried Spellbinders Glimmer paper. I’m happy to report that Carissa is correct! I foiled this sentiment using Champagne Glimmer foil, and I love how it looks. I like the Champagne foil a lot more than the Gold foil because it’s a softer, less brassy gold. So pretty!

With my sentiment ready to go, I got to building my bouquet on the die cut panel. Before I began gluing down my stems and florals, I first taped the Juniper stem down in the center of the panel. I took the Sea Glass leafy stem and trimmed off two leaves in order to place the stem to the left of the Juniper one. I started placing the flowers, and after a bit of fussing, settled on this arrangement. I feel like this feels pretty balanced; the Briar Rose flowers are split on each side of the bouquet, and the Ballet Slipper flowers fill in the rest of the space. Instead of tossing the leaves I trimmed off the Sea Glass stem, I tucked them under the Briar Rose flower which brought some of that color and a more balanced shape to the bouquet. With the arrangement to my liking, I glued it all down. Doesn’t this little bouquet look so cute?? I think it’s adorable.

To wrap up this project, I decided some sparkle was needed to fill in some of the white space. I could have left it alone, but to me, it felt like something more was needed. After a lot of going back and forth with sequin placement and number, I settled on just three. Five felt like too many, but three felt nice. I’m still not sure if this is good enough/feels natural, but I didn’t want to have too many sequins that the attention was taken away from the bouquet. Once I had the sequins dealt with, I glued my die cut panel onto a 4.25 x 5.5-inch piece of Sea Glass cardstock, and called this card done. Whew. 😅

That’s all I’ve got for you today! What do you think of this card? I do think it’s cute, but I think the sequin struggle is what made me feel ‘meh’ about it. Thanks for stopping by the blog today, I hope to catch you next time with more inspiration! 😊
