Simon Says Stamp—Oxide Resist Snowy Christmas Card

Alright friends, this is it! The last hoorah of my Christmas card making for the year. And while we aren’t quite going out with a bang, at least we’re going out with something quick & easy in case you’re in need of a last minute card!

If you’ve been following me over the past year, you know I love Distress Oxide resist. It is one of my favorite techniques, and honestly, I haven’t done enough of it this year. It makes the quickest and easiest cards that make you feel like you somehow cheated to come up with a card in 30 minutes or less. But it’s definitely one of my favorite things to do when I feel a creative rut coming along. This card though, it was not made from feelings of an impending rut, but rather the absolute desperation to crank out another Christmas card in time for the mailing deadline 😂.

For this card I pulled out the Outlined Snowflakes 6 x 6 cling stamp from Simon Says Stamp. I used this stamp on two winter-themed thank you cards this past January, and I just had to pull it out for this one! Snowflakes, like villages, are another weakness of mine. I’m not sure why, but for some reason I want to pretend I’m in a Pokémon game, and I want to catch (buy😭) them all haha. I just love them! I pulled out a sheet of C9 white cardstock that I cut down to 6 x 6-inches and white heat embossed the image on it. I like to emboss the full size of the stamp so that I can crop my panel however I would like, but you can definitely just do this with an A2-sized panel.

Once my panel had cooled down, I pulled out my oxides. I was feeling something a little frosty to play into the snowflakes, so I blended on Kitch Flamingo, Shaded Lilac, and Salvaged Patina in that order. I love these bright colors, and they blend so well together! While I waited for the oxides to dry back, I die cut the ‘joy’ from the Oversized Happy Joy die set from Waffle Flower out of C9 white glitter paper. I wanted to add a snowflake die cut to this card just like I did the last time I used this background stamp, so I pulled out the Classic Snowflake die from Waffle Flower and die cut it out of some holographic cardstock I got from Michael’s a while back. The shift to the snowflake makes it super fun on this card! I stacked up a couple extra snowflakes behind the holographic layer for some extra dimension.

With my panel dry, I die cut it using my A2 Layers dies and popped it on a cardbase. I glued the snowflake die cut onto the upper center portion of the card, then added some glue to the back of the joy and stuck it on the snowflake. I like the mixture of texture that we get between the holographic snowflake and the glittery greeting, super fun! I decided I didn’t feel like embellishing this card, it felt like there was enough going on and if I added some extra sparkle, it could be too much. What do you think?!

So that wraps up my Christmas cards! I hope you’ve enjoyed all that I’ve shared over the past 8 days. I had a lot of fun crafting, but I really hope to get going on my cards earlier next year so that I can share YouTube videos of what I’ve made. Here’s to hoping! Anyways, since I won’t be seeing you for a little bit, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year! 💗
