Poshta Design—Handmade Christmas Gifts

Well, friends, it appears that I have a new hobby. I discovered felt stitching near the end of the summer last year and wow do I love it! If you aren’t familiar with them, Poshta Design is the place for all things felt & stitching. Not only do they have the cutest die sets, but they also have fabulous colors of felt that you can buy individually, or as a color story where you get 5 rolls of felt, a small box of embellishments, and thread. One little warning I will give you with this hobby is that once you start, it kinda becomes an obsession. Ask me how I know haha!

In July I stumbled upon Poshta’s All Bundled Up Mitten die, and that lead to me wanting to make a variety of felt ornaments as Christmas gifts. Many orders later, here are my 18 creations!

These two cuties use the All Bundled Up Mitten die set, the Stripe Mitten Details die, and the Monogram Alphabet die and were made for my sister-in-law and her boyfriend. With all of the personalized ornaments, I intentionally chose colors that I knew were the recipient’s favorites—this really makes it extra special besides having a monogrammed letter! The colors that I used on the ‘J’ mitten are Cardinal (the lighter red), Red Currant (the darker red), and Wintergreen for the cuff and thumb.

For the ‘C’ mitten, I used the same dies, but with different colors. The base of the mitten is Calypso (the darker blue), the stripes are Poolside, and the cuff and thumb are this gorgeous pink called Smooch.

These two mittens were made for my grandma, who absolutely loves purple, and for my uncle who love the University of Michigan. For my uncle’s mitten, I used the All Bundled Up Mitten die, and the Stripe Mitten Detail die. The colors used were Sapphire for the base, Daffodil for the stripes, and Tundra for the cuff and thumb.

The mitten for my grandma is much simpler! It strictly uses the All Bundled Up Mitten die, but this time I used the argyle die included in the set. I love the sweet argyle detail so much, and it really is so simple to stitch! The base of the mitten is out of Tundra, the purple bits out of Amethyst felt, and that pop of pink is from Smooch thread. The sequins there came from one of the color stories I have (I think it’s maybe Merry & Bright?), and they really add some great detail to this!

Alright, now onto to these adorable stockings! I made these for my brother-in-law and his girlfriend who had favorite colors of orange and green respectively. Both of these use the All Bundled Up Stocking die. One really cool thing is that the base stocking die comes with stripes (and I think they’re super cute!), so we’ll start there! The base color, the darker green, is Peridot. The stripes are Gecko felt, and the toe, heel, and cuff of the stocking are Coral Reef. Let me tell you, I stewed for quite a bit before picking that Coral Reef accent!!

Now onto the ‘O’ stocking. For this one, I used the base stocking die, but also the Polka Dot Stocking Details die. I looove how fun these little polka dots are! Honestly, I’m a girl who loves options more than anything, so I love that Poshta has “add-ons” for so many of their sets that allow you to get different looks. The base of this one is Clementine felt, and all those polka dots are Marmalade, which is a nice softer orange. The cuff, heel, and toe are all Poolside felt, and for this decision, I went with the color wheel! Blue is opposite of orange on the color wheel, making them complementary colors, which makes them contrast with each other super well.

Okay, now we’re going to move onto sets of four ornaments. One of these ornaments, the winter hat, is a previously released kit that came back to the shop this past October but, unfortunately, is not available for purchase anymore.

I think this set that I made for my mother-in-law is my favorite of my 18 creations! I adoreeeeee these colors together. When I came up with the palette for this, I was inspired by a pair of gloves I have that are white with colorful stripes and a pink thumb, so I just had to recreate them. Picking the colors for this set was a little difficult for me at first, but then I just started thinking about colors I loved in cardstock and that helped me a lot! So, my color palette ended up being Tundra, Cardinal, Cheeky (I love this pink so much), Sunflower, and Soft Jade. This palette is so fun and gorgeous!

Now onto the dies. I used the Layered Snowflake die, the All Bundled Up Mitten die, the Stripe Mitten Details die, the All Bundled Up Stocking die, the Polka Dot Stocking Details die, and the (retired) All Bundled Up kit. The kit makes that super adorable hat, and I’m so bummed that it’s not a year-round product!

Okay, now these four were made for my mama! It was so funny, when I first decided to make these as gifts, I was going to keep it a secret from everyone. Well, my mom dropped in at my house when my husband was out of town and I was trying to figure out the stitching, so of course I blurted everything out and showed her all the felt and dies I had. I asked her to pick some colors that she would like me to use, so she chose Cardinal, Pistachio, and Cascade. I really loved creating with this palette, too! But honestly, I’m going to say that about every single one because they’re just all so dang cute! I also had a lot of fun switching up the designs in each set, too.

And rounding out the last four ornaments are the ones I made for my auntie and uncle. I had already made the snowflake about a month or so before I tackled the rest, and in that time, I changed my mind on my color palette (I was originally leaning towards a Victorian vibe), but I didn’t know exactly what I wanted. I happened to be talking to my crafty bestie (you may know her if you follow me on IG, her user is @melissagoestocraftland) and I was telling her I felt so stuck on colors, so she told me to just use the colors I did for my sister-in-law’s ornament so I didn’t have to think anymore haha! I told her that was a great idea, so I did just that using Calypso, Poolside, and Smooch. These colors really are so cute together!

Alright, that wraps up the details on all 18 of my holiday ornaments! I fear for my family because I will be making more ornaments or some sort of felted product (garlands 😍) every year. What I also love is that Poshta has a Keepsake Dates die which cuts the holes for you to stitch the year wherever you want on your felt, and I really love that added detail!

If you want more information on all things (that I know) about felt stitching, please let me know! I would be thrilled to make a more in-depth blog post or even film a YouTube video. I am also hoping to take pictures of my felt swatches soon, since I do find that the pictures of felt on Poshta’s website aren’t always accurate to how they look once you get them. Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today! I really hope you enjoyed hearing about these ornaments!!
